Financial Modeling Institute has been named a finalist for Professional Certification Programme of the Year at the 2026 International e-Assessment Awards, recognizing excellence and innovation in digital assessment across education and professional certification.
The awards, now in their 10th year, received a record number of entries in 2026, with 48 finalists representing organizations across Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. The program highlights advancements in high-stakes assessment, workplace certification, and the growing role of technology in evaluating professional skills.
Financial Modeling Institute has been recognized for the Advanced Financial Modeler (AFM) accreditation program, which takes a uniquely practical approach to assessment. Unlike traditional finance and accounting exams, FMI’s accreditation requires candidates to build a full three-statement financial model of a company from scratch within a fixed time constraint, closely replicating the demands faced by finance professionals in real-world roles. This approach is supported by FMI’s dedicated Exam Center of Excellence, which ensures the integrity, standardization, and validity of its assessments.
The AFM’s experiential format is designed to assess technical knowledge, as well as the ability to apply skills under pressure, structure financial models effectively, and produce outputs that can be relied upon for decision making.
“Financial modeling is a practical skill, and it should be assessed that way,” said Elena Alexandrova, Director of Exam Operations at Financial Modeling Institute. “The AFM program is designed to reflect the real-world expectations placed on finance professionals, and we’re proud to see this unique approach recognized on a global stage.”
Recognition by the e-Assessment Association reflects a broader shift within professional certification toward assessments that measure applied, job-ready skills rather than theoretical knowledge alone. FMI’s approach emphasizes rigor, practical competency, and real-world expectations.
Winners will be announced at the International e-Assessment Conference in London in June 2026.
